All nine Democratic Candidates in this race are Progressives. But our Campaign is the only Campaign committed to a proven reform that will take partisanship out of Congress. ( Skeptical? Of course you are. ⁽¹⁾ So, don’t take our word for it. See The Atlantic , Politico , NPR ) .

And, the reform has nothing to do with ‘unicameralism’.

To remove partisanship from Congress, following the trailblazing that’s already been done with this proven model (proven in a real-world implementation, with bipartisan support) - the full reform may, nonetheless, take 1 or 2 years to be enacted in the US House of Representatives, say, by 2019, if not sooner.

Once this bipartisan/nonpartisan reform is secured, as we’re confident it will be⁽²⁾, immigration issues will become far easier to enact, in the absence of Political Party control of Congress.

Not that we should wait to act on immigration reform. But our Campaign, and our Candidate, are committed to mobilizing a coalition, beginning even during this Primary Election, to speed the removal of much of the partisanship and divisiveness of the obsolete Political-Party-Dominated Congress system, so that every urgent agenda item before Congress, like Immigration Reform, will no longer get bogged down in Political Party disputes and arguments.

There are no obvious differences among the nine Candidates on what Immigration reforms are needed.

However, ours appears to be the only campaign confident that eliminating most institutional partisanship from Congressis doable⁽³⁾, and an urgent priority in order to remove obstacles that have hobbled immigration reform efforts for eleven years (since 2005) !

None of the other Candidates has made our commitment to end Political Party Control of Congress.

Our Campaign, apparently ONLY our Campaign, is committed to making this reform (see The Atlantic , Politico , NPR ) happen quickly. Because, frankly, we’re sick and tired of partisanship and division, too.

Everything else important will become easier to achieve, in Congress, once we fix Congress.

Our analogy: if your car is dysfunctional, and “broken” – like Congress is – you get it fixed, before setting off on a 500-mile drive to take your daughter to College. It would be stupid, and reckless -- NOT heroic -- to declare: “ I KNOW THE CAR IS BROKEN, BUT I AM DETERMINED, AND I WILL FIGHT AND FIGHT AND FIGHT TO GET YOU TO COLLEGE”.

You wouldn’t endanger your daughter’s life, and risk long delays for repairs along the way. You’d get the car fixed BEFORE trying to drive 500 miles. Wouldn’t you?

Similarly, we all know that Congress is broken, and it’s always a Political-Party battle to get anything at all done in Congress.

Now that you know there’s a proven reform that will FIX Congress, (our Campaign seems still to be alone in knowing this) --- a reform that’s been covered in The Atlantic , Politico , NPR --- then we’re obviously going to implement that reform, as soon as possible, so that everything else Progressives, Democrats ( & Independents ) want to accomplish in Congress – like Immigration Reform - doesn’t have to become a political battle.

Here’s Proof of What Our Campaign Is Promising:

Nebraska is the first state to adopt this reform model. The results have been reported --- as you may have gathered by now --- in The Atlantic , Politico , NPR and other places as well.

Last year, by which time this reform package had long become institutionalized in Nebraska, Nebraska became only the second RED state (conservative Republican) state (after Utah) to grant DREAMERs the legal right to obtain a driver’s license.

When the conservative legislators in Nebraska were asked, they said that in the absence of Political “enforcers” from the Political Parties, telling them how they should vote, the legislators were able to think for themselves, and realized that, with drivers’ licenses, would also come mandatory tests of driving skills, and insurance!

So, in the absence of Political Party interference, the right thing and the smart thing was to give DREAMERs the legal right to seek drivers’ licenses. In a very conservative RED state, that’s what happened, in the past year, because when formal, institutional partisanship is removed from the legislature, legislators can think for themselves.

They are no longer sheep. Doing what they are told by partisan and divisive political bosses.

Let’s make all necessary Immigration Reform easier, by FIRST FIXING CONGRESS !

Dear skeptical reader: Our Campaign would not be confident about the chances of making these reforms – even with the proof-of-principle demonstration in Lincoln, Nebraska --- we would still not be so confident, IF the adoption of these reforms required altruism on the part of Members of Congress. Nor would we be so confident IF enactment depended on lawmakers’ awakening to some newfound urge to simply “do the right thing for the good of the country”.

No, we are realists about human nature, and recognize that – not ALL, but MOST – Members of Congress act primarily in accord with what is IN THEIR OWN PERSONAL SELF-INTEREST.

That is exactly why we believe these reforms, to REMOVE CONTROL OF CONGRESS FROM THE POLITICAL PARTIES, are inevitable, particularly if our divided America is to remain ONE country.

Because these reforms cause power in Congress to devolve from the tight grip of the roughly 15% who exclusively wield power today, and instead flow democratically and evenly to all the members, we are confident that these proven reforms WILL be adopted.

It may require, first, a one or two- year educational Campaign to win over enough Members so they understand , that in the reformed Congress, freed from corrosive and divisive Political-Party Control, today’s powerless Members will instead ALL enjoy equal power in the selection of their Speaker, and the selection of their Committee Chairpersons – the majority of positions which today are appointed based largely on the level of partisan loyalty to whichever Political Party is controlling.

Congress Members - most of them - are women and men of substance, who are lawyers, doctors, business people, scientists, educators - most of them successful in careers BEFORE coming to Congress. Don’t think for one minute that upon their arrival in Washington they like finding themselves being bossed around by a few peers, no better than they are.

The “sheep”, yearn to be shepherds.

These reforms make ALL Members equal, and that is why Congress WILL take control back from the non-constitutional control of Political Parties, Parties that will continue their participation in our National affairs, but will no longer call the shots. Nor have such power to constantly and continuously divide us from one another.

VOTE DAN to Congress, to FIX Congress.

So Congress actually works again.
