All, except for a small handful of Members who instead, voted against their Party, and for democracy and the citizens of Maryland. The vast majority of Maryland Senators and Delegates voted the other way – for partisan political advantage, and for the disenfranchisement of perhaps 500,000 Marylanders, who may not even know they’ve been cheated by their own Public Servants.

The vote to gerrymander, was a vote against Independent and Unaffiliated Maryland voters , who effectively are now without a vote of any consequence, due to the most extreme gerrymandering in all of America, conducted right here in Maryland, in Annapolis.

By the way, Constitutional scholars believe gerrymandering violates the US Constitution . Efforts are being made to pursue the right test case to take to the Supreme Court.

Short, sad, true story: One Maryland Senator, after gerrymandering the state, ran unopposed in the next election. Being “unopposed” is expected, even intended, when you’re gerrymandering. Incredibly, this State Senator then boasted how the margin of victory in the election was 99+% to effectively Zero (a few write-in votes).

We’re supposed to be impressed by the overwhelming support and popularity?

That sounds compelling ?

No.

HOW DO WE FIX THIS DEPLORABLE MESS ?

Dan supports fellow Representative John Delaney (Democrat-Maryland 6th Congressional District). John’s " Open Our Democracy Act " would make all Congressional primary elections 1)nonpartisan, and 2) open to all voters, including Independents and Unaffiliated voters in Maryland and all across America.

John Delaney’s bill also addresses the creation of independent redistricting panels in all 50 states, so that neither political party has the power to gerrymander, in the future.
